dbx MC6 Mini-CompTM Compressor
September 26, 1997
dbx Professional Products announces the worldwide introduction of its affordable new
MC6 Mini-Comp(TM) compressor at this year's AES Convention in New York. Engineered to provide the
"classic" dbx compression sound, the MC6 represents a distinctive new approach in industrial design.
The tabletop device, which somewhat resembles a portable CD player, is designed to be easily
accessible to the performing musician or engineer who wants to see settings at a glance. Rubber feet
and a metal spring clip for mounting in almost any environment enhance the unique design of the dbx
MC6.
Delivering the same compression made famous by dbx's 160 family, the MC6 adds several new features.
The most significant of these is the use of Dual-Mode Auto(TM), which optimizes settings for vocals
or instruments within the AUTO Attack and Release setting. A true stereo device, the MC6 also uses
True RMS Power Summing(TM), dbx's proprietary stereo operation algorithm, for accurate phase
tracking through the entire audio spectrum and dynamic range.
In mono mode, the resultant output signal is fed to both output jacks of the MC6, making it an
active line splitter for sending signals to a recording deck and PA, or to two separate guitar amps.
"In terms of specifications," says Roger Johnsen, dbx director of engineering, "the MC6 performs as
well as most rack-mount products, and certainly exceeds the performance you would expect from a
tabletop unit."
Balanced 1/4" TRS inputs and outputs are offered on the rear panel of the Mini-Comp. Ideal for use
with a bass or guitar setup, the thoughtfully included footswitch bypass jack allows convenient
hands-free use.
"The combination of the front panel output level slider and the Line/Instrument level switch on the
rear panel enables the user to connect the MC6 to literally anything, from a guitar or FX pedal to a
mic or mixer," adds Johnsen.
Separate eight-stage LED meters for input/output level and gain reduction allow accurate setup for
any compression need.
Weighing in at less than two pounds and fitting in the palm of a hand, the MC6 is also the most
affordable stereo compressor on the market today, with a suggested US list price of $139.95. For more information, visit their web site at www.dbxpro.com. |
