Arboretum Previews New Hyperprism Effects September 26, 1998Arboretum Systems lifted the curtain on an exciting new series of Hyperprism digital audio signal processors for professional recording and mastering applications, at the Audio Engineering Society convention in San Francisco. These new software effects, shown today for the first time, are to be included in coming upgrades to Arboretum's Hyperprism signal processing packages for Windows and Mac:
Harmonic Exciter - Brings startling amounts of sparkle, clarity and air to any track, or an entire mix. New Arboretum technology targets a specific range of the frequency spectrum and synthesizes new harmonics from that range, creating vibrant high-end. Select either bright or warm harmonics; control crossover frequency, amount of harmonics and effect mix.
Bass Maximizer - Fattens up the bottom and makes the low end really "boom," adding punch, not muddiness. Provides dynamic control over lower frequencies that simple EQ can't duplicate. Creates the vivid perception of deeper bass without adding large amounts of low-frequency energy. Creates "odd" or "even and odd" harmonics, allows the user to set crossover frequency, amount of harmonics and wet/dry mix.
Tube/Tape Saturation - Crank up the heat on a mix, or add fire to any track with this warm effect that simulates tube overload and tape saturation. Select effect quality level, and choose between several types of "tubes" and "tapes." Offers selectable levels of warmth and gain.
The new signal processing modules are based on proprietary enhancement algorithms developed by Arboretum researcher and engineer Chris Townsend.
Built especially for electronic music production and film/video sound design, Hyperprism is a signal processing software package offering a vast assortment of different audio processes - a virtual rack of effects - which can be "played" much like any musical instrument. Featuring dozens of different processes, Hyperprism is the most complete multi-platform collection of digital audio software effects in the world.
Hyperprism is available as a MacOS stand-alone product, and also comes in plug-in versions for direct use within any professional Mac or Windows audio editing software. The new Hyperprism effects presented today will appear in upgrades to Hyperprism Plug-in Pack in the autumn of1998, and will follow in Hyperprism 2 and Hyperprism-TDM in early 1999.
