DUY Unleashes SynthSpider

September 26, 1998

DUY's SynthSpider is the first modular programmable synthesizer for the Digidesign TDM BUSTM. It is entirely software based and consists of 36 separate modules that can be linked by the user in countless different ways, providing a new and revolutionary approach to the creation of user defined synthesizers.

SynthSpider is not only the very first but the only TDM product on the market that allows the users, to "build" their own synthesizers. With SynthSpider users can configure any number of different synthesizer architectures making possible not only Additive, Substractive, FM and AM synthesis, but also entirely new architectures. The user can now create unique proprietary modular systems, enabling the development of Monophonic and Polyphonic modular synthesizers with no compromises. As a result, SynthSpider allows you to emulate virtually any type of synthesizer, sound effect generator, percussion device, etc, with just one Plug-in. An extensive library of patches is provided as standard.

SynthSpider provides a full range of modules and parameters, from simple operators such as add, subtract, multiply, shift, etc, to multi-functional modules like oscillators, filters, noise generators, sample and hold, envelope generators, envelope followers, pitch trackers, etc. Graphic interfaces like sliders, numeric readouts, plasma meters, scopes, etc, allow the creation of complex graphics. All modules can be easily programmed and patched with a simple drag-and-drop procedure.

Two working modes, Advanced and Reader allow a large working surface for editing as well as a reduced screen mode for running patches. Instant assistance with electronic instructions is provided by help balloons and "talking help". A "locked patch" feature allows users to maintain the secrecy of developed algorithms.

The exclusive Patch Manager feature allows programmable switching between patches via automation controls, thus allowing optimization of DSP resources and a degree of control and flexibility never seen before.

SynthSpider is currently available for the Digidesign TDM BUSTM. Pro Tools 4.1 and upwards, full automation and Pro Tools|24 hardware are supported.
