Yamaha Introduces X Series AmplifiersModels for Both Sound Reinforcement and Installed Sound Applications September 26, 1998Yamaha Corporation of America, Professional Audio Group, announces the introduction of the affordable X Series Power Amplifiers at AES '98. Optimized to deliver recognized Yamaha quality at an aggressive price, the X Series includes two models for 8 or 4 Ohm applications-the XS250 and XS350-and one 70/100-volt model intended for the needs of the contractor/install market, the XH150.
The XS250 offers 170 watts per channel at 8 Ohms (250W/ch. at 4 Ohms, 500W at 8 Ohms, bridged mono). The larger XS350 delivers 230 watts per channel at 8 Ohms (350W/ch. at 4 Ohms, 700W at 8 Ohms, bridged mono). The XH150 is designed for 70- or 100-volt distributed speaker systems, and supplies 150 watts per channel. THD is 0.1% at rated power. The XS250, XS350 and XH150 have MSRPs of $449, $599 and $699, respectively, and will begin shipping 1st quarter of 1999.
"With the addition of the new X Series, Yamaha will now offer four different series of amplifiers," states Larry Italia, sales/marketing manager, commercial audio. "The X Series amps come in both low-impedance and 70/100-volt models and are available at a very attractive price. We're sure there's going to be a strong demand for them."
All X Series models are Class AB amplifiers, 3RU tall and feature XLR and barrier strips on the inputs and barrier strips and 5-way binding posts on the outputs (models XS250 and XS350 only). All amplifiers feature both filter and mode switches. For the XS250 and XS350 models, the filter positions include: Off, Subwoofer and Low Cut; mode positions are: Stereo, Parallel and Bridged Mono. For the XH150 model, filter positions are: Low cut and High cut; mode positions are: 100V or 70V. The X Series amplifiers feature standard EI-type power transformers and rear attenuators.
