Metric Halo Introduces ChannelStrip|SP
October 4, 1999
Metric Halo Laboratories, Inc. has introduced ChannelStrip|SP,
a low-cost alternative to its ChannelStrip
signal processing plug-in at the 107th AES conference this weekend. Timed to coincide
with Digidesign's release of Pro Tools LE, this version of ChannelStrip provides
the same high-quality signal processing algorithms in a simple, affordable package.
ChannelStrip|SP ships with TDM, AudioSuite and Real Time AudioSuite (RTAS) versions
of the signal processors in the same package.
"Whereas ChannelStrip is the equivalent of the channel processing section
of an SSL or Neve console, ChannelStrip|SP is more like the processing
you would find on a high-end project board like the Yamaha® O2R. Both
are built upon the same algorithms and provide the same signal quality, but ChannelStrip
provides more power and flexibility than its younger brother." explained
B.J. Buchalter, Metric Halo's Vice President of Research and Development.
ChannelStrip|SP is based upon the same high-quality, high-resolution algorithms
originally implemented in ChannelStrip. The product provides the following signal
processing elements into an integrated package with an easy to use interface:
- Phase Invert,
- Gate
- Compressor
- 4-band, fully parametric EQ 48-bit EQ
- Output gain
- Clip indicators for each processing block
- Gain reduction meters for the Gate and Compressor
- SpectraFoo-style meters for the output section of the processor.
As with ChannelStrip, by providing access to all critical channel-processing
parameters at once, ChannelStrip|SP brings a new level of control to the TDM user.
All the parameters of the plug-in are automatable and can be controlled with external
control surfaces.
Since the processing load is reduced with ChannelStrip|SP, users can expect
to exceed the exceptional channel counts already offered by ChannelStrip. The
exact limitations were not determined by press time, but the number of instances
per MIX DSP will exceed 8 per chip.
The list price for ChannelStrip|SP is US$499. As with all Metric Halo products,
customers have a 45-day "no penalty" upgrade option if they decide that
they need the power that ChannelStrip provides.
The TDM version of ChannelStrip|SP requires a Pro Tools system with at lease
one free MIX DSP (any type). The AudioSuite version will run with any version
of Pro Tools and the RTAS version is compatible with Pro Tools LE.
