SADiE Launches Cedar DeThump Plug-In
October 3, 1999
Studio Audio & Video Ltd., designers and manufacturers
of the SADiE Digital Audio Workstations, are pleased to announce the launch of
the CEDAR DeThump plug-in at the 107 th AES Convention. This new member of the
CEDAR family complements the popular SADiE CEDAR DeNoise and DeClick plug-ins,
and utilizes the full accuracy of floating-point processing offered by the new
SADiE systems.
CEDAR
DeThump is designed to remove low frequency energy bursts (thumps) from an acoustic
signal. These thumps are typically encountered in optical soundtracks and on vinyl
sources, and their spectral content is often overlapped by the musical content.
A simple high-pass filter cannot remove them without significantly degrading the
underlying signal.
CEDAR DeThump uses the data surrounding the thump to build a picture of what
the low frequency signal data should have been prior to the thump. This picture
is then used to replace it with audio that is untouched at high frequencies and
which fits with the surrounding data at low frequencies.
"We are very pleased to include the DeThump facility from CEDAR Audio,"
says Joe Bull, managing director of Studio Audio & Video. "We have been
working together with CEDAR for many years now, and this latest development ensures
that we can continue to offer our customers tangible improvements over competitive
systems. CEDAR is renowned for providing the ultimate in restoration software
and adheres closely to our own philosophies. The SADiE/CEDAR combination provides
an extremely sophisticated mastering tool, yet remains exceptionally cost-effective."
