EQ Slave UnitSlave Unit is the Latest in the Element 78 Line Designed with Mr. Rupert Neve

September 28, 1999
Summit Audio introduced the EQ-200S 4-Band Equalizer Slave
Unit at the 107th AES Convention. The digitally controlled EQ-200S offers a Class
A analog path designed with Mr. Rupert Neve and has reduced front panel controls
for cost savings over the EQ-200.
"The Element 78 line is designed to offer superior sonic performance over
any other product," says Mike Papp, president of Summit Audio. "The
EQ-200S adds versatility to the Element 78 line-up by offering sterling sound
quality in a 'slave' format, allowing a studio, mastering facility or touring
group, for instance, to obtain linkability and precision repeatability."
As with the full-featured EQ-200, the EQ-200S features Class A analog circuits,
setting a new benchmark for control, precision and sound quality for EQ units.
As part of the Element 78 line, the EQ-200S is fully controllable by an EQ-200
or by the MPE-200 mic pre/EQ. The 25 on-board user presets fully reset and recall
all parameters of the unit with all information accessible by MIDI sequencers
or data filing systems. The full MIDI implementation allows for unlimited storage
of project settings and the automation of all parameters for quick and accurate
mixing situations.
Controllable parameters of the EQ-200S include switchable shelving or peaking
filters for the low and high frequencies, sweepable low midrange and high midrange
frequencies, and high and low-pass filters offering a rolloff rate of 12dB/octave.
The filters can be stacked offering a steep 24dB/octave rolloff. The output noise
spec of better than -95dBu and THD below 0.001 percent makes the EQ-200S an extraordinarily
clean and quiet performer, perfect for mastering, mixing and tracking.
"The EQ-200S fully responds to the user friendly interface of the EQ-200
and the MPE-200 with push button LCDs, graphic metering and metal shaft digital
encoders, all combined with Class A discrete circuits bearing the sonic stamp
of Mr. Rupert Neve," explains Papp. "We want the Element 78 line to
take the advantages of both digital precision and an uncompromising analog signal
path and merge them into a whole new world of audio products for the discerning
professional. The EQ-200, EQ-200S, MPE-200 and the MPE-200S accomplish this goal
perfectly."
