Roland JS-30 Sampling Workstation January 1, 1995The JS-30 draws from the same technology as the Roland S-Series samplers, allowing it can also access data from the CD-ROM libraries available for the S-Series.
It comes standard with 1Mbyte internal memory (expandable to 4Mbyte), and can sample at 44.1kHz (8-bit) for 22.5 seconds. Sampling can also be done at 22.05 kHz 45 seconds. Memory can be expanded using standard SIMMs chips. Fully expanded, the JS-30 offers 16-bit sampling, at 44.1kHz, for as long as 45 seconds. CD-ROM, hard disks and other high-capacity storage devices can be accessed using the built-in SCSI port.
Sampling is done with a start/stop button. Once sampled, the data is automatically assigned to one of the 13 onboard pads for instant use. Mic In and Line In jacks allow for a variety of sampling sources.
The Load-While-Play function communicates directly with the hard disk to eliminate data-loading time. A built-in Beats Per Minute adjust function allows for instant tempo matching from samples with varying meter, via a 10-key pad. Tempo matching can also be accomplished by tapping, even for sample phrases of unknown tempo. The JS-30's parameter and waveform data may be backed-up in DAT, VCR or cassette format. Realtime Phrase Sequence (RPS) lets the JS-30 record the playback order of up to four samples. With MIDI Sync you can trigger samples as well as load data, via MIDI messages.
In addition to the S-Series CD-ROM catalogue, the JS-30 can also utilize the Akai CD-ROM titles. For more information, visit their web site at www.rolandus.com. |
