Roland XP-50 Music Workstation January 1, 1995The XP-50 is a 61-key synth, featuring a velocity and aftertouch sensitive keyboard, a 40 x 2 LCD display, and a collection of expression pedal jacks and MIDI possibilities.
The XP-50 boasts 64-voice polyphony, 16-part multitimbral capability and 8Mbytes of Wave ROM. The XP-50 can also handle up to four 8Mbyte SR-JV80 expansion boards simultaneously. Fully expanded, the XP-50 can have 40Mbytes waveforms.
The onboard sequencer offers 16 primary tracks, and each of those is capable of sending on 16 MIDI channels. There is a separate tempo track. The onboard memory will hold 100 patterns or one song. These patterns can be up to 20,000 notes (internally) or you can
save up to 180,000 notes to the built-in 3.5" disk drive. The disk drive reads S-MRC and SMF formats. For live performance, the sequencer will read songs directly off the disk in realtime.
In its pre-expanded state, the XP-50 has 512 presets Patches, 64 preset Performances and eight preset rhythm setups. There are also 128, 64 and 2 respective user locations. Once fully expanded, the XP-50 can have up to 1660 patches onboard (128 user patches, 512 preset patches, and 255x4=1020 expansion patches), all accessible from the front panel or available for use with the sequencer.
