Mark
of the Unicorn Releases Freestyle for WindowsFreestyle
for Windows Brings Integrated Trackless Recording and Instant Notation Printing
to Windows PCs. August
1, 1995Mark
of the Unicorn, Inc. has released a version of their popular FreeStyle program
for Windows. FreeStyle pioneers composition-based sequencing with instant music
notation. FreeStyle defines a new category of composition software because it
does not have tracks like conventional sequencers, which typically emulate recording
studio hardware. The Windows version makes FreeStyle available to users of IBM
PCs and compatibles. FreeStyle has won the Music & Sound Retailer's 1995 award
for Most Innovative Software/Multimedia Product and has been chosen as a Finalist
for MacUser magazine's Eddy awards and Keyboard Magazine's Reader's Poll.
Designed from a songwriter's perspective, FreeStyle allows the user to work in
musical terms with state-of-the-art MIDI recording and transcription technology
in a friendly, musically intuitive environment. While most sequencers work like
multi-track recorders or pattern based drum machines, FreeStyle is based on Ensembles,
Players, Takes, Sections and Arrangements. FreeStyle is designed for both new
computer musicians who want to get started fast and experienced MIDI musicians
who wish to enhance their creative process. FreeStyle includes a number of
sequencing firsts that assist in the creative Process: - FreeStyle is a
trackless sequencer designed with musical metaphors such as ensembles, players,
takes, sections and songs.
- FreeStyle transcribes performances into standard
music notation in real-time and displays them in a WYSIWYG page view for editing
and printing.
- Advanced transcription features such as dynamic hand splits
and auto-recognition of tuplets provide accurate, readable music notation.
- FreeStyle's
"Straighten Swing" option correctly notates "swung" performances with straight
rhythms as per common practice.
- FreeStyle has automatic MIDI channel and device
asignments.
- FreeStyle seamlessly combines linear and pattern-based composing.
- FreeStyle includes graphic editing, notation editing, and arrangement windows.
- FreeStyle has a Riff Metronome(tm) that allows the user to choose any standard
MIDI file as a rhythmic pulse. FreeStyle comes with a set of DrumTrax(tm) metronome
riffs created by professional studio drummers in a variety of popular percussion
styles.
- FreeStyle includes intelligent Auto-Loop recording. Users do not need
to define loop length in advance. Pick-up notes are automatically duplicated at
the end of loops.
- MIDI Remote Controls allow to build an entire song directly
from a MIDI keyboard.
FreeStyle is now available for IBM PC and compatible
computers running Windows and Apple Macintosh computers. FreeStyle has a street
price of under $200. Mark of the Unicorn is a leading developer of computer
