Sonic Foundry announces CD Architect for audio editing and Red Book CD burning

January 1, 1997In conjunction with NAB '97/NAB MultiMedia World, Sonic Foundry announces the debut of CD Architect. The waveform editing and audio CD burning software further extends Sonic Foundry's line of sound editing products for the Windows platform.

CD Architect allows users to burn professional-quality Red book audio CDs including track number, track start time, index number, UPC/MNC coding and copy protection. Broadcast producers will be able to use CD Architect to create masters, to store audio, and to consolidate programming for playback on the air.

"As CD recorders and CD media become more affordable, producers are looking for a software solution. CD Architect makes burning Red Book audio CDs a viable option for almost anyone," comments Roy Elkins, vice president of sales and marketing, at Sonic Foundry. "You can burn about 75 minutes of audio on a CD, making it a great way to distribute and archive audio."

With CD Architect users can import audio from compact discs, record from digital audio tape, or digitize through any Windows-compatible sound card. Sound editing capabilities include dozens of effects andtools to process sound files. Tracks are determined by playlists that can be built with regions from one or more files.

In compliance with Red Book standard, up to 99 tracks can be written on each disk. CD Architect burns with the disc-at-once method, allowing pause times between tracks or even running tracks together. PQ code editing is fully supported, including track times, sub-indices, ISRC codes, and the ability to generate printed cue sheets.

CD Architect also verifies Red Book Standard before burning. Test burn mode enables producers to monitor their recording source for under-runs and eliminate expensive misfires. CD transport controls display track information and include real-time seek emulation to preview how the disc will respond to actual CD players.

CD Architect auto-detects the many popular CD-ROM drives, CD recorders, and auto-loaders it supports, including several from Philips, Yamaha, Pinnacle, Ricoh, MediaFORM, and Glyph.

Sonic Foundry develops and markets sound editing software for musicians, television and radio producers, Internet and multimedia developers.

The MSRP for CD Architect is $395 (US). Sonic Foundry, Inc.
