PRESS RELEASE

Fostex PS-3 Personal Studio Powered Monitoring System

September 26, 1997

Reaffirming its commitment to provide end users with the industry's most complete line of personal studio products, Fostex Corporation of America today chose the opening day of AES to introduce its new PS-3 Personal Studio Powered Monitoring System. The three-piece system is designed for personal studio and project room applications where space and budgets are at a premium, but where the need for accurate sound reproduction is equally essential.

The PS-3 is completely self-contained, compact and versatile, consisting of a 5-1/4" bass reflex sub-woofer and two satellite speakers, each of which contains a 3-inch midrange driver and a 1-inch tweeter. The ported bass reflex design of the sub-woofer delivers crisp, punchy bass response and the two-way design of the satellite speakers yield maximum efficiency of the midrange and high frequency drivers.

Perhaps the most significant factor in the overall design of the PS-3 system is the meticulous matching of the power amplifiers to the individual drivers. This critically important energy conversion-from electrical signal to moving air-is often the single determining factor in the accuracy of sound reproduction.

Stereo line level signals from a mix feed a 15W amplifier for the sub-woofer and a high pass filter feeds two dedicated 5W amplifiers for the stereo satellite speakers. The satellite speakers have sufficient dispersion to present the stereo stage panorama without requiring measured placement, and because there is no critically definable "sweet spot", the system offers a level of versatility that many near-field monitors simply cannot deliver.

"The Fostex PS-3 Personal Studio Powered Monitoring System is an extension of the Fostex performance value philosophy, and as such, delivers feature sets end users need at the price point they can actually afford," said Phil Celia, Fostex Corporation of America Director of Sales. "The PS-3 will be as much a success in home recording as it will be in the sophisticated commercial marketplace."

The PS-3 speaker system is magnetically shielded for use in proximity to video and computer monitors. Optional accessories include fixed and swivel mic stand adapters and wall brackets for the satellite speakers. The PS-3 system is immediately available at a suggested retail price of the $349.00. Fostex Corporation of America is exhibiting its entire product line at the 1997 AES Convention at Booth #119 in the Javits Convention Center in New York.
