Ernie Ball Music Man recently combined features of
its popular Axis and Axis Sport models to introduce the Axis Super Sport guitar. The new
guitar features the classic appeal of the Axis' book-matched maple top and cream binding with the versatile electronic and bridge options of the Axis Sport. The original Axis with Floyd Rose tremolo and Axis Sport with solid ash body continue to be available.
Music Man guitar fans can order the new Axis Super Sport with either Music Man's exclusive
cream-colored MM-90 pickups with the company's patented "Silent Circuit," or with a pair of
the Axis' original custom-wound DiMarizo humbuckers.
For optimum tonality, Super Sports with the MM-90 pickups have a solid ash body with a
book-matched figure maple top while Super Sports ordered with DiMarzio humbucking pickups
have a solid basswood body with book-matched figured maple top. Standard for both pickup
choices are cream binding, matching headstock, tone and volume controls and either a three or
five way lever pickup selector switch (depending on pickup configuration). There is also a
choice of a maple or rosewood fretboard and either a Music Man tremolo or standard
strings-thru-the-body bridge. In addition, both bridge options may be ordered with the
Fishman piezo electronics option that gives players the ability to produce acoustic sounding
tones independently or in conjunction with the magnetic pickups. The Axis Super Sport is also
available left-handed with no additional charge.
Color options include black, fire engine red, pearl blue, pearl platinum, pearl lavender, pearl purple, candy red, metalflake green, metalflake brown, black sparkle, sunburst, natural, plus translucent red, blue, orange, gold and purple.
