Arboretum Ships Ionizer 1.3Includes new frequency morphing technology
January 9, 1999
Arboretum Systems has released new audio technology which allows one to literally
steal the equalization curves from any recording. Forget about sampling...Welcome
to the age of Frequency Morphing.
Imagine taking the spectral characteristics - the "sound" - of any piece of
audio, and mapping that frequency curve to another sound. Readjusting the various
frequency levels along the spectrum of the second sound to match those of the
first. And imagine doing this almost instantaneously.
Analyze the mix of your favorite record with the touch of a button, then use
the new Ionizer Frequency Morph function to create filter curves that will give
other recordings those same overall EQ characteristics. Or apply the sonic fingerprints
of instrumental samples, ambiences, sound effects or voices to any other audio
source.
Yes, its completely legal and it works much better than other attempts at
this type of process. Ionizer Frequency Morphing is far different from conventional
filter, morph or convolution effects; its a way of emulating the sonic characteristics
of a recording, rather than merging the actual content. Ionizer's Morph feature
has profound implications for key audio production processes including sound design,
mixing, mastering, Foley and ADR.
A Power Mac-native application, Ionizer is a multi-band dynamic processor
that offers fast spectral analysis and 512 bands of gated EQ per channel. It can
be utilized for dynamic noise reduction, equalization, limiting, compression and
expansion, all at 32-bit floating-point internal precision. Ionizer's noise reduction
out-performs all comparable products in terms of the sheer sound quality. Ionizer
includes special controls that eliminate the chirps, flanging and ringing artifacts
associated with other NR products.
Unlike other analog and digital EQs, Ionizer's linear phase filters offer
equalization that is entirely free of phase distortion. And Ionizer is completely
user-configurable, allowing applications such as limiting the low end, expanding
the midrange and compressing the high end all in a single pass.
Ionizer operates as a plug-in effect within any MacOS Premiere-compatible
audio application, including Adobe Premiere, Macromedia DECK II, Opcode Vision/StudioVision/Studio
Vision Pro, MOTU Digital Performer, Bias Peak, Emagic Logic Audio, Cakewalk Metro
4 and Gallery TurboMorph. Ionizer also is a plug-in for the Digidesign AudioSuite
format. Upon installation in the DAE Plug-ins folder it may be used in Digidesign
Pro Tools and Emagic Logic Audio, as well as the Avid Media Composer 7.0 and Avid
Xpress 2.0 non-linear video editing systems.
Ionizer will additionally run in a stand-alone mode on any Power Macintosh
through Arboretum's HyperEngine shell. Ionizer works with the Mac built-in audio
hardware, includes special direct support for Audiomedia II and III and the 1212I/O
and also will run on other Mac sound cards with appropriate Sound Manager drivers.
Ionizer is manufactured and distributed by Arboretum Systems, Inc., a privately-held
California firm. Ionizer version 1.3 is now shipping at a suggested U.S. retail
price of $499.00, international pricing may vary.
