Arboretum Releases Ionizer for MOTU Audio System
April 15, 1999
Mark of the Unicorn users can now run Ionizer, the market leading noise reduction
and multiband dynamics processing software, directly within Performer, Digital
Performer and AudioDesk. Arboretum Systems's announcement today of the MOTU Audio
System (MAS) edition of Ionizer means high quality noise removal and a number
of other mixing, mastering and sound design applications are now available for
the first time running in real-time on the MOTU platform.
"We're ecstatic that Arboretum's Ionizer is now available as a real-time MOTU
Audio System plug-in" says Jim Cooper, MOTU's Marketing Director. "The majority
of Performer, Digital Performer and AudioDesk users take a 'high-end' approach
to recording and Arboretum's Ionizer is the first MAS plug-in to deliver high-quality,
real-time noise reduction to them - in spades. With its EQ stealing and other
advanced capabilities, Ionizer is destined to become a MOTU Audio System classic."
"I am very excited about the opportunity that MAS gives us to let Ionizer shine
in a multi-track environment" says Arboretum CTO and Ionizer creator Chris Weare,
Ph.D. "The exceptional routing flexibility and processing efficiency of MAS is
a perfect match to Ionizer's power."
Since its initial release in 1997 Ionizer has stepped up to the front of the
noise reduction pack, out-performing all other software NR products. Ionizer's
automatic Noise function identifies and eliminates unwanted hiss, hum, buzz and
other interference with just a few mouse clicks. Or use the manual Spectrum mode
to selectively remove the noise floor "by hand."
And Ionizer has other powers... its flexible interface allows it to be configured
as a graphic EQ, a compressor, limiter, expander--or all of these at once. Unlike
other analog and digital EQs, Ionizer's linear phase filters offer equalization
that is entirely free of phase distortion.
Ionizer features Arboretum's groundbreaking new "EQ theft" technology that
allows one to steal the equalization curves from any recording. Artists frequently
go into studios with copies of their favorite records, saying "make my mix sound
like this." Now the engineer can simply shoot the frequency profile of the example
recording and use Ionizer's Frequency Morph function to map the mix's sonic fingerprint
to any other recording. Foley and ADR engineers will love how Frequency Morph
helps looped effects or dialog sound more like the original location or soundstage
audio.
Ionizer operates as a plug-in effect within any MacOS MAS-compatible audio
program including Mark of the Unicorn Performer, Digital Performer and AudioDesk.
Ionizer also has Premiere and AudioSuite plug-in format compatibility and will
work in a "stand-alone" configuration with Arboretum's HyperEngine application,
included free with Ionizer.
Ionizer is manufactured and distributed by Arboretum Systems, Inc., a privately
held California firm. Ionizer version 1.3 is now shipping at a suggested U.S.
retail price of $499.00, international pricing may vary. Ionizer-MAS is a free
update for owners of Ionizer 1.3, upgrades from earlier versions are available
for $99.
