Martinsound Issues MultiMAX Software Upgrade

(Click for a close-up)
October 16, 1999 Martinsound is announcing new software enhancements for their MultiMAX multichannel monitor controller. The software enhancements are available on new units or as an upgrade to existing users.

MultiMAX is designed to augment the monitor section of an existing stereo mixing console and add the facilities necessary to handle complex surround sound mixes. It may be integrated with any stereo mixing console to add monitoring for 8-channel surround, 7.1, 5.1 and LCRS.

The additional software features for the standard MultiMAX are accessed through a new SPL Level/Range menu page in the Setup Directory and include:

  • The addition of an SPL Display Range mode. The level range display can be increased or decreased in 5 dB increments, allowing the user to select any one of five SPL range displays to reflect their preferred method of operation.
  • An extension of the level range by 30 dB. This feature provides continuous level control from 95 dB to 35 dB and has been introduced in response to customer requests for constant variable control to a very low level, without the introduction of the Dim function.
  • The addition of a Wide Inputs Interlock mode. The current version of MultiMAX permits the selection of either the Direct (console mix buses) or Playback (recorder returns) inputs, plus any combination of three Premix Inputs. A new mode permits all five 8-channel inputs to be selected in any combination, or in an exclusive, interlocking mode.

MultiMAX is the only surround monitor controller currently available to offer comprehensive downmixing in all formats, to insure backward compatibility on any playback system. Every stage of the encode/decode process may be monitored. MultiMAX includes the ability to insert an external processor and provides monitoring of the production track.

MultiMAX offers precise level control of multiple speaker systems, with solo, mute and dim control, and it incorporates a pink noise generator and individual level trims for easy calibration of the speaker systems. Downmix level options, LFE filter and bass redirection features complete the list of facilities offered by the unit. The easy-to-read LCD allows precise and repeatable setups. An optional remote is available.
