PRESS RELEASE

Musician's Atlas Updated for 2000

December 8, 1999

Music Resource Group (MRG) ushers in the year 2000 with an expanded edition of The Musician’s Atlas, a comprehensive networking resource created for the independent music community.

The 352-page Atlas delivers over 15,000 essential music industry contacts for anyone involved in artist development, performance, promotion, management, production and other areas of the music business - at a price every musician can afford.

To keep pace with changes in the music industry, the book’s editors overhauled The Atlas database to accommodate a wealth of new listings and newly qualified entries. Their aim was to deliver more accurate and useful information than any other music industry resource.

“Comments from our readers indicate that the book is clearly in-step with the musician empowerment revolution,” said Martin Folkman, editor of The Musician’s Atlas. “The prolific rise of dot-com companies that promote music and examples set by celebrity artists who now release music independently demonstrates that musicians can succeed outside the traditional industry model.”

The Atlas 2000 includes a new section detailing of radio stations and performance venues found on more than 550 college campuses throughout the United States.

Returning categories include clubs, radio stations, national and regional press, producers, studios, artist managers, booking agents, promotion companies, associations, conferences, showcases, distributors and other businesses that support the indie music scene.

The Atlas also presents the thoughts of high-profile music business executives and artists who embrace an independent spirit. Featured in the 2000 edition are: Phish bassist Mike Gordon, Public Enemy leader Chuck D, Devo co-founder and film/tv composer Mark Mothersbaugh, singer-songwriter-label owner Jonatha Brooke, Knitting Factory impresario Michael Dorf and Al Teller, president of Atomic Pop.

The Musician’s Atlas is priced at $19.95 US. (Canada $29.95)
