Mesa/Boogie Updates Dual Caliber Series with the Nomad

May 24, 1999

After more than a decade of production and getting a few new products out the door, Mesa/Boogie is revising their popular Dual Caliber line of amplifiers to create the Nomad series. They will be offered in 45 Watt (with an EL84 power section), 55 Watt, and 100 Watt versions (the latter two featuring a 6L6 based power section).

The preamp at the heart of the Nomad features three different and independent channels built around 5 12AX7 tubes. The first channel (rhythm) is based somewhat on the classic black face tone, but can be "pushed" with additional gain for a more lead-like sound, borrowing from some of the same circuitry used on the Single Rectifier amps. The second channel is Mesa's current favorite lead sound, based partly on the Mark I, a little bit of the Heartbreaker, and part Formula Preamp, and can be configured with vintage or modern gain structure. The third channel is based on the classic British circuit, but with some refinements with selectable fat and bright settings. Together with the footswitchable gain (a 5-button footswitch is included), the Nomad is designed to be a pretty versatile amp.

Each of the three Nomad models also features a parallel effects loop with mix control, and are available as a head (short or long), or 1x12, 2x12, and 4x10 combos.
