Event to Ship Project Studio Biamplified Monitors
August 19, 1999
Event Electronics is now preparing to ship their new Project Studio series
biamplified direct field monitors. Designed for use in project and home studios
as well as in professional recording and post production facilities, the speakers
are the latest offering from the Event engineering team of Frank Kelly and Walter
Dick, the same individuals responsible for the company's successful and award-winning
20/20bas Biamplified System.
Three
models are offered: the PS5, with a 5.25" polyproplylene low frequency driver
and 25mm silk dome neodymium high frequency driver; the PS6, which features a
6.5" polypropylene woofer and 1" silk dome tweeter, and the PS8, with an 8" polypropylene
woofer and 1" silk dome tweeter. All are biamplified, with 100W of power (70W
Low / 30W High) per speaker. The components for the PS5 and PS6, including the
transducers, amplifiers, and active crossover circuitry, are custom designs made
specifically for the new series. New amplifiers have also been designed for the
PS8, but the model features the same cabinet design, woofer, tweeter, and crossover
used on the 20/20bas. Crossovers on the PS6 and PS8 models are asymmetrical
fourth-order; the PS5 uses an asymmetrical second order crossover. These crossovers
- critical elements in any speaker design - ensure that the mid- and upper-midrange
frequencies will be reproduced with clarity and precision.
All three models are magnetically shielded. Their biamplified design provides
increased dynamic range, higher SPL, greater transient response, improved damping,
smoother phase response, and lower intermodulation distortion.
"The explosion in surround sound production has many project studios owners
looking for a way to expand their stereo monitoring systems without spending a
ton of money," commented Ted Keffalo, Event's VP of Sales and Marketing. "The
Project Studio monitors mean budget-conscious studio owners don't have to sacrifice
quality for price. And we're making the speakers available individually, so creating
anything from a simple stereo setup to a complete surround production system is
easy for customers and dealers alike."
