Knilling Introduces Thinline Jazz Bass
September 15, 1999
Introduced at this year's Nashville NAMM show, Knilling's
Thinline bass is a compact electric/acoustic upright, exhibiting the same playability
and rich sound associated with traditional sized upright basses. The Thinline
Jazz bass is designed for anyone in the market for an easily transportable amplified
upright bass, and perfect for any number of playing styles. Each bass has a laminated
spruce top, laminated back and sides, solid maple neck, and ebony fingerboard
and nut.
The Thinline Jazz bass has the traditional shape, but only a 3 1/4" depth
for playing ease, and easy transportation. Its overall length is 68", with
a body length of 40 1/2". Because the Jazz bass utilizes a piezo electric
pickup, the acoustic volume of the bass is smaller than that of a standard bass,
and feedback is truly minimized.
Hand-rubbed spirit varnish with Chrome-plated machine heads are also included,
plus, a Knilling Custom Shop Adjustment includes a fully height adjustable maple
bridge with Fishman pickup and 1/4" input, ebony tailpiece, 21" endpin,
and Helicore strings.
Great for all types of playing styles, including jazz, blues, rock 'n'' roll,
salsa, and swing, the versatility and transportability make the Jazz Bass a very
attractive alternative for schools, not to mention professional musicians. Assistant
Product Manager for Knilling, Lang Shen says, "The basses were very well
received at the Nashville NAMM show. In fact, we had endorsers come over and kidnap
them! They loved the amplified sound and the "feel" of the bass responding
like a real acoustic instrument. Plus, the ease of transporting the slender body
is a real bonus for gigging musicians. The Knilling Shop Adjustment also makes
these basses play like a "real" bass because all of the elements of
adjustment are correct. Everyone who played on it loved the natural quality of
the amplified sound."
