Warwick Releases Wider Neck Thumb Basses
November 12, 1999
Listening to suggestions from players all over the world,
Warwick recently released a new version of their popular Thumb Bolt-On model bass
with a wider neck. This new, wider neck allows the player to have a 20mm string
spacing, which is more comfortable for certain playing styles and techniques.
In particular, those players who like to slap and pop the bass will find more
room to perform special techniques like the down/up thumb technique
(made popular by Victor Wooten).
The Thumb Bolt-On Wide Neck bass has the same basic design and construction
of the standard Thumb Bolt-On. You will notice, however, that the newest makes
of Thumb Bolt-On basses have some of the most beautiful ovankol wood we have ever
seen. The color is very deep and the grain is well figured.
The retail price for the Thumb Bolt-On Wide Neck is only $2,279 for the 5-string
version, and $2,479 for the 6-string version. (The wider neck is not available
for the 4-string Thumb Bolt-On.) That is only a $180 up-charge for this special
feature. Fans of the Warwick Streamer LX 5 and 6-string basses can also get the
wide neck option for the same up-charge of $180.00.
