Three New Sample CDs from Wizoo
September 6, 1999
Wizoo is launching a major three-prong assault on the samplers
and soundcards of the worldwide electronica community.
The weirdest and wackiest of the trio of new sampling CDs, "Cologne Cyclez
1 & 2," is jam-packed with the infinite loops featured on the double
vinyl release "Cologne Cycles 1." The CD also features the follow-up
to "1," a brand spanking new bunch of loops that haven't even been released
on vinyl. And there's more: In a fit of creative frenzy, Air Liquide, Dr. Walker,
M.Flux, the Computer Jockeys, and numerous other artists associated with the electronica
Mecca "Liquid Sky Cologne" kindly cooked up 700 bonus loops for this
CD release. Cologne Cycles 1& 2 thus offers a whopping 1,000 break beats,
noises, sound effects, psychedelia, and synth loops. They all feature a uniform
speed of 133.33 BPM, which makes for good DIY mix-and-match alchemy.
More sedate but no less exciting, "Hamburg Loopz 2" features 300
loops based on TR-808 and Alesis HR-16 patterns. The boys and girls broke into
Pandora's effects Box, and dusted off analog synthesizers to bend, twist and warp
the patterns into truly unique sounds. This CD is a great way to spruce up run-of-the-mill
drum sounds.
For those who are into exploring the dark side, the third new Wizoo CD release
could be a sonic Holy Grail. With "LoFi-Junkiez 2," Dr. Walker and Frank
Heiss deliver 95, 97, and 120 BPM proof that they know what ugly is all about.
MPC 3000, XBase 09, Steinberg B.Box, and a bunch of special effects - courtesy
of US music electronics whiz and soldering iron Svengali Craig Anderton - deliver
the kind of sound that Dr. Walker calls, "massive electronic phunk inspired
by Cologne's finest, beer."
Wizoo's three new CDs offer samples as audio tracks as well as in WAV format
so they can be used in any sampler, computer platform, and sound card. Priced
at US$ 49.95 each, the CDs are available in music stores or directly via Internet.
