TASCAM is pleased to announce that today, the first group of MX-2424 24-Track, 24-Bit Hard Disk Recorder/Editors started shipping to its dealers. The recorder, which was co-developed by TASCAM and TimeLine, has become one of the most highly anticipated professional audio projects announced in recent years.

"A lot of work has gone into the creation of this recorder and today, TASCAM and TimeLine have taken multitrack recording to the next step," states Gene Joly, TASCAM General Manager. "From the design engineers to the marketing and sales staff, this has truly been a team effort and I am proud of all who have played a part in making the MX-2424 a reality. We have every expectation that the MX-2424 will live up to the industry's anticipation of being a truly revolutionary product."

Originally announced at the New York AES convention in September 1999, the MX-2424 is a 24-track, 24-bit random access recorder/player/editor with a list price of $3,999. The TASCAM MX-2424 base model comes with a built-in, nine-gigabyte SCSI hard drive and two channels of AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital I/O, routable to any disk channel. Interfacing options for the MX-2424 24 channels of TASCAM TDIF, ADAT Optical or AES/EBU digital I/O. Professional-quality analog I/O is also available as an option. The MX-2424's internal drive bay and external SCSI port provide for easy connection of standard disk recording or backup devices such as SCSI hard drives, optical disks, removable SCSI media and DVD-RAM drives, which can be used both for extending recording time or backing up the internal drive.

The MX-2424 is the first in a new line of products that TASCAM has co-developed in conjunction with U.S. pro audio manufacturer TimeLine Vista. The new product line has a distinctive look and is branded as "TASCAM by TimeLine." Worldwide sales, marketing and customer support is being handled by TASCAM, while TimeLine is managing product hardware design, software engineering and manufacturing from its headquarters near San Diego.

Initial MX-2424 shipments will support the Sound Designer II audio file format for Apple HFS Formatted Disks. Support for the Apple HFS+ Disk Format and FAT-32 PC Disk Format (Broadcast WAV) is slated for release in June 2000. Moreover, a software revision (also scheduled for release in June 2000) will allow the MX-2424 to record 12-tracks in 96kHz mode without having to upgrade I/O cards.
