JOEMEEK announce the release of the TB-47. This latest Meekrophone has a simple design philosophy, quality build, and stunning sonic performance. The TB-47 offers a high gain valve pre amplifier section, with the classic dual capsule from the Meekrophone series. A multi pattern special power supply is provided that can give stepped variation from omni, to cardioid, to figure 8 polar patterns. Breathtaking as a solo feature microphone, super powerful as an instrument mic; recordings simply stand out in the mix with sheer drive, quality and presence. The JOEMEEK approach to tubes Valve equipment is often thought of a warm and even perhaps dull sounding; in some cases this is artificial, to emphasise the tonal qualities of a tube stage. Our approach has been to create a tube that performs as originally intended, making the warming effect much more subtle, but producing a sound that maintains every emphasis of a performance. The result: a sound that is clear and bright, but unmistakably smoother than the FET based Meekrophone counterparts. Background The history to the JOEMEEK tube mic lies in the beginnings of the first JOEMEEK JM-47 prototypes. The original microphone, developed by Fletcher Electroacoustics featured the normal 1" condenser capsule, but had electronics and a valve stage that was extremely 'home brewed'. The mic sounded fantastic, and has made surprisingly many recordings for the industry, despite only 10 ever being made. The favourite mic (pictured) has been the source of all the vocal and guitar tracks on Supergrass' latest album. In fact, half the vocals had already been done before we loaned the mic to engineer John Cornfield. After hearing the results, he re-tracked the lot! There have been no valve mics made by Fletcher since these experimental modelsÉuntil now. The original Fletcher valve mic had no switchable polar patterns, or pads. It really is as basic as a mic gets. What we were after was the right sound that makes a superb track. After several generations, we got there, and this has sound been passed on to the TB47. The reason this mic was so exclusive is that the prototypes were in no way production engineered to make them available for a reasonable price. The cost of even the stainless steel casing was extraordinary. Now, through links with the far east, Fletcher have been able to make the new valve mic, and sell them on at a price that is ready to take on the microphone market in a serious way. The JM-T47 is a mic that offers the best sound Fletcher have to offer, and is finally available to the pro audio market. TB-47 Features One of the major features of the TB-47 is the constantly variable field pattern of the mic. This is achieved by a switched/rotary control on the supplied power unit. This allows the user to directly alter the pattern of the mic at source; useful for constraining or allowing sound from many directions to enter the recorded track. Also, in live room environments the polar pattern can be used as an 'ambience' control. The TB-47 features a 1" gold, 6 micron, hand assembled true condenser capsule. This feeds the classic tube pre amplifier stage. All tube, class A design. A large custom-made output transformer balances the output of the TB-47. This does not make the mic technically new or clever, but it is the best uncompromising formula for the recording of solo sounds. Extra features include the custom made shockmount that protects and supports the mic. Also included are extra long mic cables, allowing the power supply box to be placed quite remotely to the performance.
