Hudson Music's DVD, "Liquid Drum Theater", is a two-disc DVD that documents the
drumming of one of today's most influential drummers, Mike Portnoy . The Special Edition DVD features the Modern Drummer Magazine readers' Poll winner's work with Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment and incorporates two bonus live performances for over 20 minutes of new footage that was not available on the original VHS Video version released in 1999. Also included are a full-length commentary by Mike, digital picture and sound and an exclusive camera switching option that allows the viewer to "direct" four studio performances.
Disc One features music from the two Liquid Tension Experiment CD's. Mike performs eight songs/segments and breaks down the drum parts from each. In addition he explains how to develop a "toolbox" of fills and patterns to draw from. Also featured throughout is exclusive "home footage" of the making of the first LTE album.
Volume Two focuses on the music of Dream Theater. Mike performs eleven songs/segments from the "Falling Into Infinity" and "Scenes From a Memory" CD's and isolates the drum parts from each song. He also discusses playing in odd-time signatures, developing double bass technique, soloing and much more. Also included is exclusive live footage of Dream Theater from their 1998 World Tour.
