April 19, 2001Metric Halo announced that the initial release of Mobile I/O will include ADAT capable I/O hardware. The first models released, the 2882 and the 2882+DSP, have been redesigned to incorporate optical connectors for added functionality. Highlighting the flexibility of the Mobile I/O hardware architecture, Metric Halo added lightpipe support due to user demand.

"We have had numerous requests for this option, and we felt that it was worth the extra effort to include it," said Chief Engineer Dr. BJ Buchalter. "This added functionality is another example of how Mobile I/O outperforms alternative interfaces on the market today." Dr. Buchalter went on to explain that the design of Mobile I/O was based on a field upgradable audio engine that protects users from any future standards changes.

Mobile I/O is Metric Halo's award winning audio interface. Based on the IEEE 1394 (FireWire) transmission protocol, the Mobile I/O 2882 line has 8 channels of analog input and output, 8 channels of lightpipe I/O, and stereo digital I/O with SRC as AES/EBU and S/PDIF, for a total of 16 simultaneous channels of I/O. It supports all of the standard professional and multimedia sound driver APIs for both Mac and Windows, including ASIO and native OS drivers. Each input channel has individual phantom power, and all are fully matrixable. Mobile I/O ships with multitrack recording and mixing software. The +DSP units have an extra DSP chip onboard to capitalize on the additional processing power of Metric Halo software and third party plugins.

Mobile I/O 2882 and 2882+DSP will ship in May of 2001. The retail price for the 2882 is $1495, and the 2882+DSP models sells for $2195.
