The Gibson/Playboy Rabbit Head guitar was first seen as a "mock
up" on the April, 2001, Playboy cover. Due to the interest received,
Gibson's Custom, Art & Historic division is releasing 50 instruments
worldwide. Each guitar is in the shape of the revered Playboy
trademark, a tuxedo clad Rabbit Head profile.
"Both Playboy and Gibson are a symbol of the good life and both
represent luxury brands in entertainment," says Gibson Chairman
and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz. "These guitars not only look and
sound great, but they represent a quality investment as well."
The Rabbit Head guitar was first created by hand in the Gibson
Custom Pro Shop and features a sculpted, hand cut shape that's been
crafted to provide balance and playability. A single P-90 pickup and
mahogany body provide a thick, bluesy tone and the ebony
fingerboard features a pearloid Playboy inlay.
Each Rabbit Head guitar comes with a custom fit hardshell case that
includes a shroud that captures another trademark of Playboy's
founder Hugh Hefner - a silk robe with black velvet collars and
embroidered pocket. The case and shroud are only available as part
of this limited edition guitar. Also included is an exclusive black
leather strap, certificate of authenticity and three picks featuring the
Rabbit Head logo.
Second in the series of Playmate
Commemorative guitars, the
Playboy 2001 Playmate of the
Year Les Paul features a custom "pinkburst" glitter finish, a
rhinestone Bunny Head silhouette on its headstock and matching
inlay pattern of pearloid on the fretboard, '57 Classic Humbuckers,
and ABR-1 bridge, stop tailpiece and binding on the top, fingerboard,
headstock. The top carve is from the Historic Les Paul Collection of
instruments.
Only 50 of these guitars
are being made available
worldwide.
Each guitar is
commemorated with a
certificate of authenticity,
custom dust cover,
hardshell case with the
Playboy and Custom
Shop logos silkscreened
on the outside. Also
included is a fine leather
strap only available with
this guitar.
In 2000, Gibson debuted the first two Playboy guitars--the Playboy
Les Paul and Millennial Playmate 2000 Les Paul.
Gibson Custom's Playboy guitars are available exclusively at
Custom, Art and Historic dealers and Custom Award Level dealers.
