LightWave Systems Releases System Two (S2) Optical Pickups June 9, 2001 LightWave Systems has announced the official release of their improved optical pickup system for bass guitar, S2. S2 is now available to all Original Equipment Manufacturers.
In January 2000, the company introduced its first optical pickup to the music industry; a fixed-bridge design system utilizing an audio board with bass and treble tone controls. During this time, the company received favorable feedback from manufacturers and players on their product in relation to the market demand.
The system was well received by the marketplace, however critics of the system focused on lack of flexibility in tone control options. The company's R&D team quickly responded to this feedback by designing the S2.
S2 features the company's Monolithic bridge design (i.e. one per string), six-channel motherboard, plug-on daughterboards for unlimited tonal flexibility, multiple power supply options, and iceTone piezo enhancement for each string.
This technology in these pickups utilizes optoelectronics to "see" the vibration of the string, enhancing the strings' true voice by eliminating the magnetic influence or "pull" on the metal strings. These optics accurately convert string motion into a precise electrical signal for hi-fidelity reproduction of sound. The end result: the most powerful and responsive method of string transduction ever developed, and sound unachievable by all existing pickup systems.
The S2 system will be featured at several OEM trade show booths at the July NAMM event. For more information, visit their web site at www.lightwave-systems.com. |
