Event Electronics Announces EZ8 Optical Interface
May 10, 2002Event Electronics began shipping
the EZ8 Optical Audio Interface, a PCI card with ADAT lightpipe I/O that
allows users to get high-quality digital audio into and out of their
computers at a budget price. Designed for use with the Event EZbus and other
lightpipe-equipped devices, the EZ8 supports up to eight channels of
24-bit/48kHz recording and playback. The card also features an S/MUX mode,
which allows simultaneous recording and playback of up to four channels of
24-bit/96kHz audio.
The EZ8 is part of a suite of three audio devices, collectively known as the
EZbus Audio System Plus, comprising the EZbus, the EMP-8 Eight-Channel
Digital Microphone Preamplifier, and the EZ8. The system provides
computer-based recording musicians with a wide range of high-quality analog
and digital I/O, comprehensive software control over music applications and
MIDI devices, and versatile audio mixing, processing, and routing
capabilities.
When used with an EZbus, the EZ8 greatly expands the number of discrete
tracks users can simultaneously record and play back with their computers.
Connections between the EZbus and the EZ8 are made entirely in the digital
domain via fiber optic cables, so the sonic integrity---i.e., S/N ratio,
dynamic range, and THD+n---of the source signals are precisely maintained.
The EZ8 is also ideally suited for use with stand-alone A/D converters,
digital mixers, and other lightpipe-equipped devices.
The EZ8 comes complete with two high-quality optical cables (each two meters
long) for a suggested list price of $199. Users can also configure
their computers with multiple EZ8s, making system expansion both simple and
affordable.
