Midiman has announced shipment of the new line of Groove Tubes microphones. This all-new American-designed lineup of studio condensers features six different models differentiated by medium or large diaphragm sizes, tube or FET circuitry, and single or multiple polar patterns.

These new Groove Tubes microphones have many factors that attribute to their vintage character. The entire line employs solid brass capsules, as opposed to the injection-molded version that most manufacturers use today to cut costs. Additionally, over 300 separate precision operations go into crafting each Groove Tubes capsule alone---more than what goes into many finely crafted acoustic guitars (yet a diaphragm is about the size of a coin). Ultra-thin evaporated gold diaphragms yield an extremely transparent sound. These diaphragms are half as thin are the nearest competitor--3 microns on the large diaphragms, 6 microns on the medium-sized diaphragms. (A human hair is about 40 microns).

All large-diaphragm Groove Tubes microphones incorporate the company's unique Disk Resonator technology, delivering extended frequency response ideal for accurately capturing the realism of any sound source. Large diaphragms typically get so bogged down resonating at low frequencies that they can't efficiently reproduce higher frequencies starting around 14kHz on up. Groove Tubes' Disk Resonator interacts at high frequencies with part of the diaphragm, extending the range of the capsule transparently through 20kHz and beyond. Each mic is hand-assembled, hand-tested and measured against Groove Tubes' "golden reference microphone". Every mic must measure within +/- 1db of the reference mic in order to pass inspection--a much tighter spec than found on even the most famous European mics.

The enhanced designs and manufacturing techniques for the new Groove Tubes mic line also allow the introduction of a new concept into the market--affordable matched pairs for stereo miking. Matched pairs from most manufacturers have classically carried a surcharge and required special ordering--if available at all. Due to inherently tight manufacturing tolerances, all Groove Tubes mics now ship in matched pairs--with no penalty fees.
