PRESS RELEASE

Gate FX Collection Updated and Expanded for 2002

November 8, 2002

Calling all dance producers... KEYFAX NewMedia announces the release of a completely revised and expanded version of its Gate FX collection, which is now being offered in both Standard MIDI File format, and in native format for the Yamaha Motif series.

Gate effects, the studio technique of driving a synth or vocal pad from a drum beat being fed into a noise gate, has been a powerful way to create instant groovy dance atmospherics since the disco boom of the 1970s.

Keyfax devised the concept of "MIDI gates" - using MIDI control information to replicate (and actually expand upon) this trick back in 1994 with the release of Gate FX. Many thousands of tracks have been created using the 15 gate effect templates contained on this product in the intervening years.

Gate FX 2002 expands upon Gate FX in a number of key ways: First, no less than 30 new gates have been added, including some highly inventive filter gates (useful for both patterns or just bass tweaks). Secondly, all the gates now come in both CC 7 (Volume) and CC 11 (Expression) format. Thirdly, for users of the Yamaha Motif, a special edition has been released called 'Mo'Gates' on which the data has been saved and voiced, with accompanying starter drumbeats, in native Motif Pattern format.

The regular SMF version, Gate FX 2002, works its magic on any sequencer platform and any MIDI sound source - software or hardware. Mo'Gates, meanwhile, offers this powerful facility instantaneously (literally, load file, play chord, hit Play) for the best-selling Motif series workstations. For users of either version, Keyfax has posted a helpful background article on the general history and usage of gate effects on its website at www.keyfax.com/GatesArticle.html

Both Gate FX 2002 and Mo'Gates sell for just $39.95 and can be purchased from music stores on disk/CD, or heard in MP3 demo form and ordered from both the Keyfax.com and Motifator.com websites. In keeping with Keyfax's "we'll never leave you stranded" policy, existing Gate FX customers can receive the upgrade completely free of charge by contacting Keyfax NewMedia direct.
