New Strings Sets from Gibson

Gibson Strings & Original Equipment has created a new polymer treatment that protects guitar strings from moisture and makes them last far longer than uncoated strings--without loss of tonal quality or natural feel. Gibson Hydrophobic strings go through a proprietary, patent-applied-for process that coats the windings and core wire with a molecular-thin polymer material that repels water, dirt and other contaminants without coloring the tone or adversely affecting the feel or performance of the string.
"Gibson Hydrophobic strings bring guitarists up to speed with the polymer technology in the aerospace and medical industries, " says Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar Corp. "They represent the biggest technological advance in string design since Gibson introduced Monel steel strings in the early thirties to replace copper wire."
Gibson Hydrophobic strings are offered for both acoustic and electric guitars in three versions:
- Hydrophobic Electric FATS
- Electric guitar strings wrapped with pure nickel wire around a gold electroplated Swedish steel hexagonal core wire. FATS provide a warm, smooth tone perfect for everything from Jazz to Classic Rock.
- Hydrophobic Electric BRIGHTS
- Electric guitar strings wrapped with nickel plated steel around a Swedish steel hexagonal core wire. BRIGHTS enhance brightness, volume and clarity--perfect for Rock and Blues.
- Hydrophobic BRONZE - Phosphor bronze wound acoustic strings that yield the full tonal spectrum of your guitar, with crisp highs, punchy mids and well-defined lows.
Gibson Strings & Original Equipment also introduced L-5 and Humbucker string sets.
L-5 strings are like their Gibson guitar namesake; the ultimate for electric jazz guitar by Gibson. Wound with pure nickel for a mellower, sweet tone, these roundwound strings are designed for players who want a heavier, jazzier feel to their guitars, but still want the crisp attack of a roundwound string. The combination of string gauges let you enjoy a superior balance of feel and volume.
The new Gibson Humbucker strings are specially formulated to bring out the best from guitars outfitted with humbucking pickups. They feature a special alloy wrap and core that optimizes the tone of a humbucker pickup, enhancing the pickup's rich harmonic textures and complex overtones.
