Circular Logic, LLC, a music technology company based in South Florida, has announced the release of the InTime Tempo Tracking System 1.0 for Windows.

With InTime, musicians play a MIDI instrument and the computer follows their tempo changes in real-time. InTime is capable of following broad, sweeping tempo fluctuations, as well as the subtle nuances of playing with a groove, both with remarkable accuracy. Musicians can use InTime to record a track with a natural feel, improve the accuracy of notation software, have external sequencers and accompaniment MIDI files follow their timing, or have a light show sync up to what they play. Unlike any previous technology, InTime completely eliminates your computer's internal clock from the music making process. It figures out what you are playing musically and follows your tempo changes in rea l time.

Years of research and development have gone into InTime, the first in a full line of tempo-tracking related products the company plans to release. "We are very excited to finally bring InTime to market," says Circular Logic President, Dr. Edward Large. "This is a revolutionary way of thinking about music and computers ... so much so that we have found that people have a hard time understanding what InTime does. But it is really quite simple, play music and your computer follows you! The first reaction we get when musicians try our software is: 'I feel like it's reading my mind ... How does it do that!' We hope this product can eliminate a lot of the restrictions people have associated with MIDI music in the past."

Two versions of InTime Tempo Tracking are available, Basic and Professional Edition. The free 30-day demo available at the company website (www.circular-logic.com) provides both versions, giving the user the choice of which to try at the beginning of each session. InTime Basic provides the company's patented Self-Sustaining Synchronous Tracking (SST) technology. Users can speed up, slow down, play with a groove, and their computer will follow their playing -- that's what InTime is all about. With InTime Basic, users can record a MIDI file with natural feel or make intentional tempo changes. When they are finished recording, the tempo map will reflect what was played. The result is a standard MIDI file which they can then use with their favorite sequencing or notation software. There are also some basic tempo tracking adjustment controls, like Sensitivity, which controls how much resistance InTime puts up to tempo changes. Users can assign a MIDI event as a tracking toggle to switch between playing wit h a steady tempo and tempo tracking. This feature can be used to record the body of a song at a steady tempo then switch to tempo tracking to slow down at the end.

InTime Professional Edition offers all the features of InTime Basic, plus many powerful additions. Users can play along with pre-recorded MIDI tracks, whether live or recording, and those tracks will follow their playing in real time. They can use InTime as a sync master, driving external MIDI devices to slave to their playing. They can loop a MIDI file, great for practicing with a rhythm track. There are other advanced features, such as the tempo limiter, which allows users to set a minimum and maximum tempo, so they don't speed up or slow down too much. There is Groove Tracking, which lets users play "around" a steady tempo but still play with feel. There are other advanced tempo tracking controls that let the users refine InTime to follow their personal style of playing.

The Mac version of the InTime Tempo Tracking System is in development.
