Recordare Launches MusicXML Software and Sheet Music

May 9, 2002

Recordare LLC, an Internet music software and publishing company, has announced the launch of its Online Store (store.recordare.com), featuring downloadable MusicXML software and sheet music.

Recordare's Dolet software provides a "universal translator" between music notation programs. Dolet uses the MusicXML format to break down the barriers between applications that prevent musicians from getting the most out of their online sheet music. Recordare Editions of classical music are available in MusicXML and four other popular formats.

Recordare's first software product, Dolet for Finale 1.0, allows Finale to exchange files with any program supporting the MusicXML format. Finale is the world's best-selling music notation software. Finale Windows users can use the Dolet plug-in to read music scanned in with Visiv's SharpEye Music Reader, widely viewed as the world's most accurate music OCR program. Dolet also improves compatibility between Finale versions, letting Finale 2000 users read Finale 2002 files that have been saved in the MusicXML format.

The Recordare Editions of classical music continue this commitment to freedom of choice in online sheet music. Over 50 songs are now available in five different music formats: PDF, FreeHand, MIDI, MusicXML, and Finale. Customers can choose the combination of formats that best meets their needs and budgets. The repertoire includes some of the most beloved song cycles by Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann - music that has never before been available in high-quality, editable online editions.

"The Internet and the World Wide Web have shown consumers how valuable it is to have their music and data available in open formats, accessible to any program," stated Michael Good, CEO of Recordare LLC. "By using XML, music notation software can take advantage of the investments in open standards made by much larger industries. We are gratified by the early support of industry leaders like Coda and Visiv for the MusicXML format."
