DTS Encoder for Nuendo Announced

Steinberg Media Technologies AG announced
the DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) Encoder for Nuendo Production Systems at AES, to be available during the 3rd Quarter of 2002.
DTS is an alternative format for Surround Sound developed by Digital Theater Systems and burst onto the scene with Stephen Spielberg's box office success Jurassic Park and has since made major strides not only in the movie industry, where it provided a similarly epic sonic experience to Dolby AC-3. DTS also finds its place in music and audio production for DVD-A and SuperAudioCD, where the increased fidelity of the rear speaker pair means that full bandwidth audio can be placed in all speakers in the Surround field.
This important encoding format will be available as a plug-in encoder for use within Nuendo itself. The sheer convenience of having the encoding system on the same platform as the program which is used to create and process the audio (and indeed the same platform which is being used to author the final product) drastically reduces the production time and the expertise required to make sure the final audio has been correctly produced and encoded through the process.
The DTS encoding process has been specifically licensed to Steinberg to offer Nuendo users access to the next stage in the Surround Sound production process. The implementation is simplicity itself! The encoding is integrated as DTS file format in Nuendo's export dialogue. The necessary routines are all automated so that the user merely needs to define which 6 files should be DTS encoded - ready for use in the authoring stage. The DTS encoded audio can be saved as a WAV file to directly burn a 5.1 mix to CD.
