PRESS RELEASE

TC Electronic Introduces Reverb 6000

May 3, 2002

TC Electronic has announced the new Reverb 6000 platform. Covering Reverb from 16 mono to dual 6.1, Reverb 6000 is an industry first. New multi-format delay and boundary effects are also featured plus desirable effects from the past. Reverb 6000 including presets created by film and music pros, makes its debut at the AES convention.

New Formats

Multi-channel delivery in film and music has created a need for several new reverb formats. TC acknowledges this and offers the first commercially available 6 main channel room simulator. Processing modes include 6 channel, 5 channel, matrixed surround, stereo and mono. One Reverb 6000 can accommodate two 6.1 reverbs or 16 mono, and any formats can be used simultaneously.

Old Classics

Early generations of digital reverbs became famous for their desirable flavor rather than their precise room simulation. Interesting combinations of dense chorused reverb, or highly unnatural envelope responses spring to mind. Reverb 6000 adds such colors to the user's palette. Reverbs can be set to mimic the original qualities precisely, or be put in high resolution/high bandwidth mode as desired.

Wild Reflections

Professional tools to create delay and boundary effects for multiple output formats have until now been non-existent. Reverb 6000 offers long high-resolution delays and reflection patterns for up to 6 main channels. 24 reflections can be controlled individually with a wide variety of parameters or otherwise quickly manipulated in real time to serve the user's needs. Even in 5 or 6 channel output mode, a Reverb 6000 can run the effect four times.

Halls of Fame

In the factory bank "Halls of Fame" presets from notable names in music, film and mastering are available. Each preset features an info note explaining who was the creator, and what the intentions behind that particular preset were. Great as they are, Halls of Fame presets can be used straight out of the box, or used as the best starting points imaginable.

Best of TC Collection

Reverb 6000 not only contains many newly developed algorithms, it also includes a back catalogue of the best TC classics at their highest resolution. From M5000 over M3000 to System 6000, Reverb 6000 contains them all.

Film- and Post-production

With more than 300 built-in film and postproduction presets, Reverb 6000 offers the most extensive reverb and room simulation collection in the business.

Thanks to the processing and memory access capabilities of Reverb 6000, presets with a distinct character are offered alongside easy to use generic sustain reverb effects. Therefore, credible and quickly adjustable simulations are part of the package, covering anything from claustrophobic boxes to gigantic outdoor environments. To further spark the creativity of its user, Reverb 6000 also comes with new algorithms going beyond simulations to the land of twisted and funky effects.

Reverb 6000 includes award-winning VSS and Reflector algorithms at their highest resolution and density for just about any format: Mono, mono to stereo, stereo to stereo, matrixed surround, and 5.1 or 6.1. Delay and boundary effects can also be put in a 3 channel mode (LCR). One Reverb 6000 can simultaneously run 16 mono reverbs, four times stereo, two times 6.1 or combinations of those and other formats.

Music production

Reverb 6000 comes with more than 300 built-in presets for music production. It further refines TC's idea of reverb being more than a pleasing sustain effect; which is why you are not only offered e.g. stereo in to stereo out or 5.1 in to 5.1 out, but also Source based implementations of the algorithms. Instead, the Source based versions take in e.g. 2 or 4 discrete mono sources and deliver a stereo or 5.1 rendering.

Source based simulation makes it possible for a listener to identify and differentiate between sources in a mix based upon subtle reflection cues (like with a good microphone pick-up of a live performance). Instead of adding the same reverb soup to many elements of a mix, the Source concept is true stereo, or whatever formats you have chosen to work with.

Adding to the award-winning VSS algorithms, Reverb 6000 also contains several new effect reverbs, some of which provide desirable and still sought after flavors from the past. The algorithms in Reverb 6000 can do it the way the ancestors did including resolution, noise texture, and can even be put in a hi-res mode. Other new functions have been added to enable more wacky effects, should plain vanilla not be what the user is after.

Algorithms in Reverb 6000 use double precision processing making up for a 24bit clean signal path.

All registered System 6000 users can get version 3.0 upgrades, adding all Reverb 6000 capabilities to their System free of charge.

Reverb 6000 will be released in May 2002.
