Syntaur Offers Vintage Organ and Mellotron Sounds for Ensoniq Samplers August 9, 2002
A multitude of vintage keyboard instruments are sounding off again - as
are samples for the
Ensoniq ASR and EPS samplers. Syntaur Productions has released Sample Set 29, "Vintage Organs," and Sample Set 30,
"Mellotron," each a
4-disk set selling for $29.95. All sampled instruments are fully
programmed with patch
selects and extensive use of modulators.
"Vintage Organs" brings to life a multitude of combo organs from the
'60s and '70s,
from the charmingly cheesy to the big and beefy. Besides the groovy
classics like the Vox
Jaguar and Continental and the Farfisa, the set also includes the
Acetone, Wurlitzer WX-2,
Hammond XB-2, and others from Yamaha, Roland, and Korg. Altogether, 24
different organ
instruments are included in the set.
"Mellotron" features the three classic sounds from this unique
instrument: flutes,
strings, and boys choir. The Mellotron, which plays back actual tape
recordings to produce
its sounds, was first widely heard as the flute sound in the Beatles
"Strawberry Fields
Forever." The same flutes were later immortalized in Led Zeppelin's
"Stairway to Heaven."
First manufactured in 1963, a working Mellotron is today a rare find.
This set captures the
distinctive character of this vintage instrument.
