Synth.Biz announced the availability of a free, downloadable guide for use with the DM2MIDI software application that turns the low-cost Mixman DM2 USB controller into a ready-to-use control surface for Native Instruments' Traktor DJ Studio 2.

Synth.Biz has packaged the DM2MIDI software along with specially developed configuration files that allow the DM2 hardware to control many functions of Traktor DJ Studio. Available as a free download by visiting www.synth.biz/dm2, the package includes:

  • The DM2MIDI application for Windows
  • A configuration file for DM2MIDI that configures the software for Traktor
  • A controller map for Traktor DJ Studio that puts most of the performance features of Traktor under DM2 control
  • An illustrated, easy-to-follow, 14 page instruction guide (in Acrobat PDF format) that provides step-by-step instructions for installing and using the DM2MIDI software and DM2 controller with Traktor DJ Studio 2

"Until now, the usability of Traktor DJ Studio has been hampered by the lack of an inexpensive, hardware control surface that gives DJs 'mouse-free' control along with a way to use natural scratching gestures and crossfader techniques," said Keith R. Crosley, founder of Synth.biz. "Using the DM2 hardware interface brings a whole new level of fun and ease-of-use to Traktor DJ Studio users. This is especially exciting since the DM2 is now widely available for just a fraction of its original price."

The Synth.Biz Using DM2MIDI with Traktor DJ Studio 2 guide and software let users control all of the major features of Traktor without using the mouse, including:

  • Playing, cueing and scratching of sound files using the DM2's "scratch rings"
  • Crossfading between decks using the DM2's hardware crossfader and joystick
  • Controlling and activating loops
  • Controlling filter and EQ settings, including joystick control of filter sweep effects
  • Browsing files in the track collection and playlist and loading them into Traktor's decks

To download this free guide and software, visit www.synth.biz/dm2 .

The DM2MIDI application can also be downloaded without the Traktor configuration files and guide by visiting www.pdoom.ch/dm2 . DM2MIDI allows the DM2 controller to generate MIDI data that can be used by any hardware or software that accepts MIDI input.

Synth.Biz is also working on The Ultimate Guide to Traktor DJ Studio 2, a video course and guide that teaches all of the features of Native Instruments' DJ software.
