Wave Mechanics, makers of the UltraTools line of Pro Tools plug-ins, has released FilterFreak, the first plug-in from their
SoundToys line of plug-ins.
FilterFreak is an analog-modeling filter plug-in that takes a musical
approach to creative sound design. Though it was inspired by studio
filtering boxes like the Mutronics Mutator and the Sherman FilterBank,
FilterFreak goes a step beyond.
The core of FilterFreak is a super-steep 48dB per octave analog modeling
filter. With adjustable filter slope, resonance and filter shape, nearly any
filter character can be created -- from smooth and gentle to aggressively
resonant. It's also easy to add warmth and dirt by overdriving either
the input or output stage of FilterFreak using the company's analog
modeling technology. This means you can use FilterFreak to add subtle warmth
to almost any track in your mix.
One of the things that separates FilterFreak from its analog cousins is its
modulation section. Designed for radical filtering effects, FilterFreak has
five different modulation sources -- Tempo-locked LFO, Envelope Follower,
Random LFO, ADSR, and Triggered Random Stepper.
FilterFreak is available in Digidesign's HTDM, RTAS and AudioSuite plug-in
formats and supports Pro-Tools HD, LE and Mix systems. FilterFreak is $249,
and can be purchased through dealers, or directly from Wave
Mechanics.
