March 21, 2003

Steinberg has unveiled a brandnew Controller Unit for Nuendo Systems at AES Amsterdam: ID -- Steinberg Input Device. It has been designed and handcrafted by a team of audio professionals to meet the high demand for total control of the software with that familiar "console"-like feeling and much more. ID -- Steinberg Input Device is far more than another generic controller device. Its controlling and Nuendo's Audio Production and Editing functionality are as seamlessly woven together to suit any working situation.

ID consists of 4 logical sections dedicated to various aspects of recording, editing, mixing and control room monitoring:

The Fader-Section offers 24 Channels for direct Access. LCD Displays show track names and the current status of important channel parameters: Solo, Cut, Track- Arming, Direct Channel-Strip Access and Automation-Status. For controlling Levels ID offers 12 HiQuality, touch sensitive motorised faders and 12 encoders.

The Encoder-Section features a complete Chanel Strip Layout with 24 endless encoders with button function, 24 two line displays and 24 level indicators for direct access to any cannel parameter.

Controlling VST PlugIns is supported by 24 endlesss encoders in conjunction with 48 lines of display and 12 additonal Favorite-User-Function encoders with displays.

The Chanel Strip Mode immediately displays Routing, Phase, Trim, AUX Sends, Plugin slot--Assignment, EQ and Panning for convenient editing.

The ID Edit-Section's integrated Matrix ASCII Keyboard and the trackball allow to operate the computer and the software completely without mouse and keyboard. The transport controls with the weighted dial support ergonomic workflow by controlling several edit functions from Nuendo's Project Window.

Also, the Edit-Section offers Switches and Status Displays for nearly every important edit function. Additionally a number of user configurable groups of Controls and Switches allow to directly control any Nuendo Commands the Sound Engineer needs for designing his personal Toolbox.
