Arboretum Now Shipping Montage Media Editor for OS X
April 6, 2003
A consumer-priced alternative to Apple's iMovie software, Montage
was built for OS X from the ground up and is 100% Cocoa native. Montage
features a "trackless" workspace that allows the free
manipulation of video, audio, stills, and text in an infinitely expandable
window. Combining powerful video, audio and text features, the user
interface is completely transparent. If you can see a movie in your mind,
you can easily create it in Montage by placing and editing clips in the
workspace.
Media clips can be dragged and dropped, imported or captured in real time
from a FireWire DV camera using remote machine control, then freely arranged
in the workspace to make movies or audio projects. Real-time,
editable transitions are automatically created when video clips are dragged
on top of each other and over a dozen video effects, including edge
detection, emboss, film noise, and color tint are available and can be
applied to any video clip; a realtime preview box takes the guesswork out of
adjusting effect parameters.
Audio clips can be edited,
arranged, stacked, and processed to generate stunning soundtracks. There is
no track limit because . . . there are no tracks. Montage comes with a wide
variety of effects from Arboretum's Hyperprism
suite of processors and more can be added via a flexible plug-in
architecture - including Ray Gun and Ray Gun Pro for cleaning up
scratchy vinyl, tape hiss, hum, and other problem recordings.
Montage also offers powerful text features to display credits, section
titles or even karaoke lyrics. Set font, size, type, color, style,
alignment, scroll direction and auto clip duration. Place text against
transparent background (for use on video) or user-defined background color.
Text boxes can be placed over video clips or keyed against an editable
background with adjustable duration for scrolling.
Montage is designed for novice digital moviemakers or professionals who
want a dynamic, productive new type of workspace.
