April 25, 2003MUTEC is now shipping Smart Merge, an 8-channel fully automated digital line mixer. After the initial announcement at the AES Convention in Munich, Germany, MUTEC considered suggestions by interested customers to design the final version.
Smart Merge makes the handling of digital signal sources much less complicated. For the first time such signals can be mixed in real time without any level control. This enables the producer or musician to concentrate 100% on their main work in the studio.
Smart Merge is designed for digital mixing of up to four individual AES/EBU or S/PDIF stereo sources including sampling rate and format conversion with 24Bits/96kHz. The resulting signal comes as 24-Bit AES/EBU format and can be referenced to Word Clock or a digital input. So, a fast and problem-free integration into professional studio environments is possible.
Smart Merge uses a 32-bit floating-point processing engine, allowing it to handle hot input signals without any pre-attenuation to maintain overall dynamic range for highest sound quality.
The included digital routing matrix enables the user to patch individual input signals to the master output and to pre-listen to any input by headphones while the digital output is continuosly available.
Smart Merge is perfectly suitable for expanding the number of effect returns or input channels of digital mixing desks. It provides high-quality digital signal processing without claiming any of the user's time for input leveling or supervision of the master output level.
