Olson-Audio Announces Synthetic Instruments for Emulator 4 Samplers April 22, 2003
Olson-Audio has announced the Synthetic Instruments, 304 native E-mu
Emulator 4 family synthesizer presets. Synthetic Instruments will work in
any Ultra and Classic Emulator 4 family sampler line.
The Emulator's synth engine, modulation cords and filters are extensively
used through all banks. The work has been done by using the Emulator as a
subtractive synthesizer, rather than sampler/sample player. Up to 20 patch
cords or modulation slots are used to control Emulator's massive engine.
Static or evolving harmonically rich audio spectrums are used. Most banks
are results from tweaking the Analogue Systems 5-VCO modular or Waldorf
Microwave XT. It's actually about bringing complex but not necessarily
pleasing sound, into the sampler. The magic occurs when finding the perfect
combination of Emulator parameters with the samples. A side effect, is the
fact that the amount of sample data can be kept relatively low. All banks
may be loaded in RAM in a maxed out E4. Just under 100MB RAM is used.
Big efforts has been made on articulation. Key velocity, pressure, mod- and
pitchwheel are not only hooked up, but fine tuned in a natural way. The 47 banks and 304 presets
are named after its sample content. Presets are further divided into bass,
pads, kbd and leads. Some are MIDI-synced to the Emulators clock generator,
and LFO's.
Synthetic Instruments may be ordered from www.olson-audio.com. Two paths are
available. CD-ROM(CD-R) in E-mu/EOS native file system or electronic
download. The download option, offers the product in compressed and archived
E4B files. EOS 4.7, allows communication with FAT hard- and removable
drives. From a Mac or PC, the E4B files are to be
copied onto the FAT drive, which in turn is mounted in the Emulator.
Pricing: 45EUR for CD-ROM including shipping. 35EUR for the download option.
