Bad Cat Ships X-Treme Tone Tube Overdrive Pedal
April 17, 2003
Bad Cat Amplifiers, the manufacturer of hand-built, point-to-point all Class A tube guitar amplifiers, is now shipping its new X-Treme Tone pedal. The X-Treme Tone tube overdrive pedal is the follow-on product to the company's first pedal: the "2 TONE". With similar chrome-top heavy steel box construction and hand-wired dual 12AX7 circuitry, the new X-Treme Tone permits guitarists to take-charge of onboard interactive tone shaping and an extreme range of tube gain.
The original 2 TONE pedal is a 2 channel, clean tone control and gain pedal. The alternate purpose X-Treme Tone, though technically a single channel layout, goes virtually clean and it also boasts interactive BASS and TREBLE. In addition, the X-Treme Tone footswitches between single tube overdrive and chained, dual tube overdrive. The latter mode takes no prisoners and opens a floodgate of controllable silky smooth to all-edge gain boost.
All Bad Cat pedals feature true bypass, chicken head knobs, black powder coated heavy-duty steel chassis and mil-spec components, internal power supply and detachable industrial power cord. A bright three color LED ladder positioned on the chromed foot plate confirms operation modes. Large Bad Cat logo emblazons the front fascia.
Comments Bad Cat design head Mark Sampson, "The new X-Treme Tone pedal is aimed at satisfying all players' needs for huge reserves of controllable gain; from subtle output signal warming to extreme gain boost; hence the model name. The X-Treme Tone can embellish the tube-gain character of Bad Cat amps and that of any other type of guitar amp. This preamp circuit path is actually a reduced take-off of Bad Cat's Hot Cat 15W and 30W model amps and thus this pedal shares the same, effective controls: Gain, Edge, Level, (interactive) Bass and Treble, and Master. Far from a simple boost box, this pedal adds genuine controllable tube enhancement to studio or live play and remains faithfully musical."
Dimensions: 8 1/4"W x 8 1/4"D x 2 3/4"H, weight: 7 lbs.
MSRP $399
