Version 5.0 Software for Mackie's d8b Announced January 6, 2002
Mackie Designs has announced a major software upgrade for their Digital 8 Bus (d8b) recording console with the release of Version 5.0. Version 5.0 includes a completely updated graphical user interface (GUI) for improved navigation, a HUI emulation layer, surround monitoring control, as well as an extensive list of new features.
"Version 5.0 is the direct result of our listening to d8b users and providing them with real-world features and functionality that will improve their overall productivity and efficiency," commented Keith Olsen, Corporate Director, Global Recording Market and Product Development at Mackie Designs Inc. "The HUI capabilities, for example, were implemented specifically for artists and engineers that are interfacing more and more with desktop systems, but still require the sound-quality, routing, and I/O capabilities of a high-end mixer."
New with 5.0:
- A HUI (Human User Interface) layer allows the d8b to function as a high-quality automated control surface with I/O for popular DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) platforms.
- Updated dynamics algorithms improve channel-processing performance resulting in better sounding gate and compressors.
- New production tools, which include on-screen help as well as track sheets and channel notes, can be easily exported as html files for sharing session information with other users.
- Independent surround monitoring level controls and on-surface surround monitor control.
- A completely updated GUI (graphical user interface) provides new views for all EQ and dynamics in a graphical format along with complete metering control.
- New plug-in chaining capability permits "daisy-chaining" of up to four plug-ins for one send, which allows users to double, triple or quadruple the number of plug-ins assigned to one input.
Version 5.0 began shipping with all new d8b consoles on December 16, 2002 and is currently available as a download from www.mackie.com for $299.00 (MSRP, USD). Version 5.0 is a free upgrade to anyone that purchased their d8b after November 15, 2002.
