Soundminer will be featuring version 3.1 of its audio file management system at the upcoming NAB show. Coupled with the built-in 192kHz multi-channel capable Soundminer playback engine, Rewire, and Pro Tools, it is now possible to audition and transfer your high-resolution files in sync with an existing session through your Digidesign Pro Tools (or any Rewire supported) hardware.

You can listen to your raw surround files in various formats with discrete placement through your hardware. Moreover, Soundminer's Rewire implementation also features complete transport control and linked playback. Control your Pro Tools session from within Soundminer, park yourself right on the a desired frame, find the sound that best fits and then audition the sound synchronously with your Pro Tools session (audio and video) even before committing to transfer.

ReWire is a technology for transferring audio data between software applications - in real time - the software equivalent of a multi-channel audio cable. Users will now be able to stream up to 6 channels of audio from Soundminer through their hardware while their DAW application is running. At the heart of this version is the new Soundminer ReWire Engine. Based on Soundminer 3.0's original playback engine, the new engine will allow for on the fly bit depth and sampling rate conversion of up to six discrete 24bit/192khz audio streams.

Regardless of your Pro Tools session or Nuendo setup, sounds can be auditioned with their surround placement intact. Moreover, the user has access to both the VSTRack in the Soundminer Browser as well as their favourite VST plug-ins in Nuendo and their RTAS and TDM plug-ins inside Pro Tools. A big part of sound editorial is selecting sounds that work in context with the user's existing tracks. This new feature will let users' audition new sounds from Soundminer against their existing DAW audio and video tracks with sample-accurate sync. Users will also be able to audition more traditional mono or stereo sounds panned "in-place" using their DAW's built in surround architecture.

Some other highlights include:

Dictionary and Thesaurus - thousands of words and synonyms have been added to this original sound specific dictionary and thesaurus. Soundminer can now assist with spelling and word substitution and that makes for better more accurate searching. In fact, it even supports verb conjugation. Type past, present and future tenses and find exactly what you want.

The New Project System allows you to first create Projects with specific transfer parameters and then create Taglist Bins nested within those projects. Recalling a Project retrieves all your edit decisions from all your Taglist Bins. Each Bin can have both Notes and audio references with specific Scene, Reel, Scene Description, Supervisor Notes, Footage or Timecode information, editorial decisions, varispeed settings and department allocation. All transfers are tracked telling you exactly when a sound was transferred.

Rex Support - Soundminer will not only catalogue your REX and rx2 files, but it automatically reads the original BPM and allows you to vary the tempo and convert and transfer the file at a desired BPM directly into your Pro Tools session.

Soundminer EQ - 1/3 octave phase coherent equalizer is now built right into the Soundminer Engine allowing you to create complex equalization processing on the fly while auditioning through your Rewire connection to Pro Tools. This is in addition to support for native processing through Soundminer's VSTRack.

MySQL/HTTP/ServerX3.1 - Soundminer's new ServerX3.1 features full support for MySQL, HTTP streaming for high security installations, complex ranked relevance searching, and responsive sonograms and waveforms in the Browser. Visually reference the files while you Browse, then simply click on the waveform to begin playback from that point. ServerX3.1 provides low level integration with MySQL and can be administered using any MySQL administrative tool.

Expected ship date - Q2 2004. There will be an upgrade fee for existing users. Soundminer 3.1 MSRP: $995US.
