March 3, 1999Marshall announced a new line of effects pedals at this year's MusikMesse show
in Frankfurt. A total of six new pedal were on display, each packaged in a solid
metal case and featuring passive bypass.
Marshall is well known for the distortion sounds of their amps, and in that
vein, half of the new pedals are overdrive and distortion effects. The new JH-1
Jackhammer features two modes to capture both the JCM 800 crunch and the extreme
JCM 2000 lead sounds. Besides the mode switch, the pedal also has controls for
gain, volume, mid, mid contour, bass, and treble.
A new version of the Blues Breaker pedal was also announced, again with two
modes of operation: boost or overdrive, rich in the more favorable harmonics.
Controls includes the mode switch, drive, tone, and volume.
Marshall's Guv'nor pedal has also been given new life with the GV-2. This versatile
distortion stomp box features knobs for gain, deep, bass, mid, treble, and volume.
Marshall is also expanding beyond just distortion effects with their VT-1 Vibratrem
which combines both vibrato and tremolo effects. Simply select the mode, depth,
rate, and shape. The VT-1 also has stereo output for a more enveloping sound.
The move into different effects also includes the SV-1 Supervibe stereo chorus.
The circuitry is adapted from that used in the A880 and Valvestate chorus amps,
but the pedal adds a new filter control to further shape the sound. The standard
speed and depth controls are there as well, plus a wave control.
The new pedal lineup is completed with the ED-1 compressor. In addition to
knobs for volume, attack, and compression, the ED-1 includes an emphasis control
for a more personalized sound. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.marshallamps.com/. |
