Fostex D-15 DAT Recorder July 11, 1997
Moving to provide all segments of the professional
audio market with exponentially more power and features at the most affordable price, Fostex
Corporation of America is now promoting the extensive array of post production features of its new
D-15 Digital Master DAT Recorder. According to Fostex Corporation of America Director of Sales
Phil Celia, the company is now launching a nationwide dealer push to position the D-15 recorder as
the lowest priced full featured DAT recorder available on the market today.
Dubbed "the Avid-users dream," the Fostex D-15 offers all of the reliability and cost-effectiveness of
the revolutionary Fostex D-10 DAT recorder-including multiple cue levels, multiple cue times,
onboard parallel ports and 20-bit/8X oversampling
capability-but with the addition of new post-friendly features including chase-lock capability in
playback mode as a standard feature, and optional video reference and RS-422 interface capability.
The Fostex D-15 recorder is available in three different configurations. The basic D-15 model carries
a suggested retail price of $3,295.00. The Fostex D-15TC features an internal time code sync card
and carries a suggested retail price of $3,890.00. Finally, the Fostex D-15TCS features both an
internal time code sync card and RS-422 video machine control (minus Vari-Speed) for its
suggested retail price of $4,085.00.
"The feedback we experienced with the introduction of the D-10 was fantastic, and much of that has
been incorporated into the new Fostex D-15," Celia explains. "What the new D-15 DAT recorder
offers is the highest level of functionality at a never-before-seen price point. Our research clearly
shows that today's professionals in all market applications want more true value for their money.
They want high performance features they need. They don't care about bells and whistles they're
not likely to use often. They want VALUE all across the board - and value is precisely what the
D-15 delivers over and over again."
The new features of the Fostex D-15 complement the functionality of the new generation of post
production platforms, especially the popular Avid system. With its incorporation of time code
chase-lock and 9-pin RS-422 remote machine control interface, the Fostex D-15 can operate as the
primary audio recording and playback device for these systems while keeping the entire audio
chain completely within the digital domain. Other features, include instant start, RAM scrubbing,
cue-to-modulation and program accessibility via program numbers of Absolute time (A-Time). The
D-15 also integrates seamlessly into the operation of a wide array of modern video, film and
broadcast post systems.
Finally, the new Fostex D-15 offers several new features that make it a stand-out even if configured without synchronization and video machine control interface options, such as a new, highly intuitive
graphical user interface which dramatically speeds up the system's already simple learning curve,
as do front-panel calibration controls and fully upgradable software. Those interested in learning more about the Fostex D-15 and the complete Fostex product line can
