PRESS RELEASE

Roland A-70 Expandable Controller

July 11, 1997

When Roland introduced the 88-note A-90/A-90EX Expandable Controller in 1996, its user-friendly operation, powerful features and great sounds immediately set a new standard for professional MIDI controllers. Now the same operation and powerful features have been brought into a more affordable, 76-note instrument: the A-70 Expandable Controller.

Offering velocity- and channel-aftertouch sensitivity and the acclaimed "organ-touch" response found in Roland's G-800, the A-70 is poised to faithfully deliver every expressive playing nuance onstage or in the studio. A selectable velocity curve lets users choose the velocity sensitivity to best suit a particular music style or sound source, while 20 controllers including aftertouch, a bender/modulation lever and wheel, and four onboard sliders allow maximum realtime sonic control.

Four independent MIDI outputs permit the control of up to 64 MIDI channels, while independent control for eight zones-four external and four internal, or eight external sound source zones-ensures that the A-70 will easily handle the most complex MIDI rigs. A bright backlit LCD and a host of dedicated Data, Parameter, MIDI, Zone, Function and Sequencer buttons provide the same intuitive operation as the acclaimed A-90.

MIDI control flexibility is provided via four User name maps and eight Preset name maps, 64 Performance memories, 10 chains and one manual. MIDI connections include the aforementioned four MIDI OUTs, two MIDI INs, and one MIDI THRU.

The A-70 can be expanded with a variety of high-quality sounds from optional Roland VE-RD1 and VE-JV1 Voice Expansion Boards, allowing the A-70 to be used as a stand-alone professional stage keyboard. However, the A-70's massive MIDI control options and affordable pricing ensure that when it's time to design the ultimate stage or studio MIDI rig, A-70 owners will have both the power and the budget.
