Sabian Announces Will Calhoun Signature Series

Sabian Ltd. is pleased to announce the introduction of the Will Calhoun Signature series of cymbals
and sounds. Comprising a 21" Calhoun Ride, 14" Mad Hats and a 10" Alien Disc created with direction
from drummer Will Calhoun, formerly of Living Color and Wayne Shorter, these new models reflect the
broad musical leanings - from rock and jazz to hip-hop, funk fusion and world beat - of this highly
musical yet powerful player. Each cymbal is unlathed for distinctly dryer, definite sticking responses,
then buffed and heavily hammered with '0-pattern' peens for tonal effect and increased control.
The 21" Calhoun Ride is a heavy, unlathed model boasting bright, solid stick responses. Its dry sound
is high-pitched, focused and penetrating while its small bell reduces overtones and accentuates the
power of the stick by ensuring a cleaner, clearer stroke. Sticking response is fast, ensuring ease of
playing at even the quickest tempos.
Calhoun 14" Mad Hats combine a medium weight top that is 3/16" larger than its heavy bottom. This
unique combination reduces air lock, increases response rates and bolsters stroke clarity. The
buffed surface and '0' hammering also increase stick bounce, for added playing speed and accuracy.
Consisting of a solid bronze 10" disc punctuated total of 12 rivets (4 groups of 3), the Calhoun Alien
Disc combines a bright, bell-like note reinforced with a full, sizzling sound extended duration.
Mounted upside down or right side up the Alien Disc is an alternative effect which can be played by
stick, brush, or mallet.
